Things To Do in the Area

Borrowdale is a great place for outdoor activities; and with the market town of Keswick nearby, there is no shortage of things to do.

Whether your looking to enjoy the scenery of the many surrounding Fells with a variety of walks, going for a splash in nearby Derwentwater or taking the challenge of the many outdoor activities on offer; you will be surprised what the quiet valley of Borrowdale has to offer you!

Outdoor Activities

Borrowdale is one of the best places in the country for outdoor activities including walking, climbing, mountain biking, sailing, canoeing, wind surfing & paragliding, to name but a few!

Indeed the sport of rock climbing spent its infancy on the crags of Borrowdale with the first routes being put up in the 1890's, since then development has continued, with Borrowdale now boasting hundreds of climbs; everything from milder routes for beginners, to the more cutting-edge extreme routes, enough to challenge even the most experienced climber!

For those who like a more leisurely pace, there is fishing or birdwatching, and plenty of beautiful scenery to keep even the keenest photographers and painters busy. Or you can simply sit back and enjoy!

Local Walks

There are many walks straight from the front door, including the popular Catbells with amazing views from the top over Derwentwater and the Newlands valley. Skiddaw and the other highest mountains in England (Helvellyn, Great Gable and Scafell) are close by for the more adventurous and experienced walkers.

Plus there are many less strenuous walks around the valley to enjoy, each with plenty of lovely views to take in. For a lazy day walk to the shore of Derwentwater (1 1/2 miles), then pick up a launch, relax and have a trip round the lake.
